About the Advanced Cardiovascular Institute
The Advanced Cardiovascular Institute is a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) dedicated to cardiac electrophysiology. It joins our existing clinic in Northwest Houston and brings catheter ablation, pacemaker, ICD, and loop recorder procedures directly into the Texas Medical Center.
For patients living near downtown, the Inner Loop, River Oaks, the Galleria, West University, Bellaire, or anywhere along the I-69, US-59, or I-610 corridors, the TMC location offers a shorter drive and easier same-day return home after a procedure. For patients in Northwest Houston, the existing pathways at Houston Methodist Willowbrook and Houston Methodist Cypress remain unchanged.
Same-day discharge is standard for most outpatient EP procedures here. Consultations and follow-up visits continue at our Hargrave Rd clinic; the ASC focuses on the procedure itself.
Procedures performed at the TMC ASC
The procedures listed below are the core outpatient electrophysiology work performed at the Advanced Cardiovascular Institute. Each is scheduled in advance, with pre-procedure instructions sent ahead of time and post-procedure follow-up at our clinic.
- Catheter ablation: atrial fibrillationPulsed-field, radiofrequency, and cryoballoon energy
- Catheter ablation: SVTIncluding AVNRT, AVRT/WPW, and atrial tachycardias
- Catheter ablation: atrial flutterTypical (CTI-dependent) and atypical flutter
- Catheter ablation: ventricular tachycardiaIdiopathic and scar-mediated VT with 3D mapping
- Pacemaker implantationTransvenous, leadless (Micra, Aveir), and CRT-P
- ICD & CRT-D implantationTransvenous, subcutaneous (S-ICD), and extravascular (EV-ICD)
- Loop recorder implantationFor unexplained syncope, palpitations, and post-ablation surveillance
- Electrical cardioversionPlanned cardioversion for AFib and atrial flutter
- Electrophysiology studyDiagnostic mapping, often paired with ablation
More complex or higher-acuity cases, including lead extraction, certain high-risk ablations, and any case requiring inpatient admission, are performed at our affiliated hospitals: Houston Methodist Willowbrook, Houston Methodist Cypress, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, St. Luke’s The Vintage, or Memorial Hermann Memorial City.
Location & the Texas Medical Center
6624 Fannin is in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world. The TMC location places our team adjacent to the resources of nearby hospitals and laboratories, with quick access along Fannin Street and the METRORail Red Line.
Getting here
Drivers can reach 6624 Fannin from US-59/I-69, I-610, and the Texas Medical Center exits along Fannin and Main. METRORail’s Red Line stops within the TMC for patients arriving by public transit. Parking and check-in details will be sent with the procedure scheduling packet.
Scheduling & what to expect
Scheduling for procedures at the Advanced Cardiovascular Institute begins after your in-clinic consultation. Most patients are seen at our Hargrave Rd clinic first; from there we discuss treatment options, obtain any prior authorizations, and schedule the procedure at the most appropriate facility.
For most outpatient EP procedures performed at the TMC ASC, patients arrive in the morning and go home the same day. Pre-procedure instructions, fasting guidance, and medication-hold instructions are sent in advance. A responsible adult is required for ride home after sedation.
